Don’t leave San Francisco without doing these 5 things

San Franciso! Nobody told us that there would be hills, mini mountains that we would hike daily just to get to the nearest Whole Foods or corner shop from our hotel.  But we were high on a plan to discover San Francisco, the city almost…

4 perfect hiking trails you must do in Palm Beach

Hiking trails…just the thought of it would make me shudder. Why would anyone subject themselves to the anonymity of the woods? The likelihood of befriending a bear, deer or worse, an alligator is not appealing. I choose life! Two and a half years ago Phil…

Toni's signature relax blend for introverts. Tha Toni's signature relax blend for introverts.

That's what I called it. My own handcrafted blend of soothing fragrant oils in a soy candle, to melt away the frenzy of the world and recharge.

There's only a 1/2 inch of it left but I'm praying it gets an anointing like the widow's olive oil in the bible.

God's in the business of miracles right? Surely he can make this candle last until my next trip to @thecandlepour.

The last couple weeks I've relegated myself to sniffing the hypnotic blend every now and then to make it last.

Ridiculous I know, but when something's so good, you just don't want it to end. I really should just plan another trip back and stock up and hopefully I remember the recipe I came up.

If you're candle obsessed like me, this will be a good experience to save to that Tampa itinerary.

Can you guess the four scents that were in my blend?

Happy New year friends!

By the way did anyone else type 20201 like me at first?😂
One of the traditions I miss since living in the U One of the traditions I miss since living in the U.S. is being in church on New Years Eve. Most Caribbean churches usher the New Year with prayer, praise and a fiery sermon mixed in from 9 p.m. to just past midnight.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While we can certainly pray anywhere, I miss the community of prayer with others, joining hands over God's promises and power.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The year has been riddled with immense grief, trauma, uncertainty, fear, pivoting, hopelessness, but it's also been a year of⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hope⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Patience⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Renewal⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Intimacy⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Discovery⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Faith⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Alignment⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And next year, I'm praying for more of the same, the good and the bad running on intersecting tracks because⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Without fear we don't experience the power of faith⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Without grief we don't experience to the beauty of comforting and without testing we don't experience what it means to endure and persevere. Our response to trials either show us what we're made of or produce more of what we need.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I pray that -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Whatever we do will prosper as we find joy in God's plan {Ps 1:2-3}⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. We'll pry back the fingers of fear, imposter syndrome, and past hurt from around our necks so we can thrive in purpose⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. We'll intentionally sow God's words into the fabric of our being⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. We'll speak life and truth within our minds and to others {Prov 18:21}⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. We'll have the courage to live in freedom daily {Hebrews 12:1}⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. We'll discover God in the details even the mundane ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Amen!
Things may not look the way you want it to but the Things may not look the way you want it to but there's still a lot to be thankful for.

We're a few hours away from the birth of a new year. Normally I would be planning a few overseas getaways but instead I've been leaning more towards slow traveling the U.S. when the "dust" settles. We've been living here for almost 14 years and I've seen more of other countries than of these States (I've only been to 4 and that includes the one I live in).

I want to travel differently going forward - diving deeper, moving more slowly, absorbing the heart and soul of a destination. I'm craving more honest experiences, real, open and immersive. Experiences that may not result in curated feeds but incite connective presence and community. Sometimes that's the hard part of "trying to be an influencer" showcasing photos in a way that compels curiosity for something deeper than "posting it for the gram."

There's a world out there with meaning in the details and it fascinates me, even in the simplest of things, like making bread. A whole lesson on perseverance came to me all from kneading dough.

Hmm...maybe I'll share more of those quiet stories too. I'm just thankful for the fire of this year molting away the frivolous so I could realize what makes my soul sing - sharing the stories of people, places, spaces and experiences.

What did this year teach you? Did you discover something new about yourself?

P.S. I have a thing for peeling walls. There's beauty in imperfection.😉

Merry Christmas from me and the model @phillashley!
Ever had a moment in time where you're soaking up Ever had a moment in time where you're soaking up everything that's happening around you and wish you could just freeze time because you just don't want the moment to end? You're thinking of it. I can see the smile stretching across your face.
My favorite memory is of my family piling into our old white Subaru Justy one summer. Mom had asked me to help her plan our family's "cross country vacation." It really wasn't a cross country trip, but more of a northern highlights tour of Jamaica. We started the vacation with a tour of their childhood homes. I remember the car creaking along the dusty red earth that led to country side of Maroon Town. Mom's eyes sparkled as she told us of how she would play hide and seek with her brothers in the cane fields. I remember trying to imagine a 12 year old version of my mother, with plaits bouncing around her as she kept looking around from her hiding spot.

Does Grandma have photos of you from back then? I asked.
She shook her head.
No, we didn't have a camera back then. We couldn't afford it.

The irony was we didn't have a camera for our trip. After a summer of swimming next to rafts and sitting in the Justy devouring salted roast yellow yams and listening to stories of how my parents grew up, I wished we had a camera to freeze some of my favorite moments. Like the view of my parents snuggled up on the raft watching me and my brother play or the tears of laughter etched on our faces when Papi told us jokes that we had heard a million times before. He always laughed at his jokes and his laugh made us laugh.
Yep, those are the moments I wish I could've saved on digital pixels or prints. It may have been one of the subconscious reasons why I became a photographer. Moments matter, whether filled with joy or somber reflection. So as the year winds down, as we embrace another Christmas, live in the moments. Things will never hold space the way moments do.
